Simona Poncia si avvicina alla fotografia dopo aver visto una mostra a Firenze dal titolo “Robert Mapplethorpe: La perfezione nella forma”, in cui le fotografie dell’artista americano erano affiancate, come termini di paragone, al David e ai quattro Prigioni di Michelangelo. Questo incontro alimenta la sua passione per quest’arte, motivandone lo stile in bianco e nero.
Le sue foto sono senza tempo. Riesce a fare emergere l’essenziale e la purezza di ogni cosa donando, con le sue atmosfere rarefatte, sacralità all’immagine ritratta. Immersa nella natura misteriosa o travolta dalla confusione cittadina, è il silenzio che ricerca, un contatto intimo con il mondo che la circonda.
Vive in un piccolo paese e la nebbia accompagna la sua quotidianità per molti giorni durante l’anno.
Di seguito le sue parole: “La nebbia rende tutto più affascinante e si riscoprono, nella loro vera essenza, paesaggi che si pensava di conoscere. Le cose non appaiono nella loro complessità ma si mostrano pian piano, modellandosi attraverso la luce che continuamente cambia. Per me che amo la fotografia in bianco e nero la nebbia regala scenari incantevoli, ultraterreni, fino a quando svanisce portandosi via anche il sogno che ha creato”.
Paesaggi onirici, ritratti ma anche architetture o interni dei musei sono soggetti prediletti delle sue fotografie, retaggio del suo percorso di studi in Storia dell’Arte.

Simona Poncia approches photography after seeing an exhibition in Florence, entitled “Robert
Mapplethorpe: perfection in form”. In the exhibition the american artist’s photographs were placed side
by side in comparison with Michelangelo’s “David” and “The four prisons”. This event fed her passion
for this art, motivating so her black and white style. Her photographs are timeless.
She is able to highlight the essential and purity of everything, giving sacredness to the portrayed image
by means of rarefied atmospheres. Immersed in the mysterious nature or overwhelmed by the chaos of
the city, the silence is what she is looking for, as well as an intimate contact with the world around her.
She lives in a little town and the fog is a constant presence in her daily life for a lot of days during the
year. So she says: ”The fog makes everything more fascinating and you can rediscover the ultimate
essence of landscape that you thought you knew”.
Things don’t appear in their complexity, but they reveal themselves step by step, taking their shape
through the ever changing light. For the reason that I love black and white photographes, the fog give us
enchanting and celestial sceneries; till it vanish so taking away with itself the dream it created”.
Her favourite subjets are dreamlike landscape, portrays, but also architectonic constructions or museum
interiors, these being the heritage of her art studies.
